Volkswagen plans to introduce EV for China

According to Volkswagen Group China, Volkswagen plans to manufacture electrically powered vehicles in China under joint-venture agreement with local player SAIC Motor and FAW Group that will be responsible for building up to 10,000 EV (electric vehicles) between 2014 and 2018, destined for local distribution. Chinese current dependability and future demand on power supply from its conventional coal-fired power station may force vehicle manufacture to rethink its approach with electrically powered vehicle for this market with possibility of China-specific EV design alternative that would overcome current hurdles that makes such opportunities financially unjustifiable. However, China is following other global examples by introducing government-funded subsidy for electrically powered and Hybrid vehicles. This follows recent announcement by GM to offer its version of electrically powered vehicle GM Volt towards the end of 2011.
